Department of Science and Humanities
The Department of Science and Humanities was established in 2009–2010 to consolidate the basics of the sciences and the English language. The department has highly qualified and motivated faculty members who continually enrich themselves by participating in and conducting seminars, conferences and workshops, presenting papers and publishing articles, to stay current with a fast-changing technical world. As part of the co-curriculum it organises seminars or conferences annually, and it trains and encourages students to take part in paper presentations, workshops, symposiums and cultural programmes at various levels. The department focuses on students' personality development and soft skills, counsels them through the challenges of young adulthood, and builds a strong, disciplined relationship among students.

Engineering knowledge
Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
Problem analysis
Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
Design / development of solutions
Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Laboratories
Well-equipped labs with modern tools, kits and software for hands-on learning.
1English Language Lab
Helps students acquire competency and command over the English language, improving communication skills, soft skills, presentation skills, phonetics and grammar. The lab prepares students to face interviews and global challenges, builds self-confidence and helps them overcome the fear of public speaking.
2Physics Laboratory
A spacious, well-equipped laboratory set up at a cost of ₹15 lakh, with a separate dark room for optics experiments. Experiments are designed to correlate theory with practical applications and build skills that help students in their final-year projects. Major equipment: laser, spectrometer, ultrasonic interferometer, fibre-optic kit, travelling microscope, band-gap apparatus and Carey Foster bridge.
3Chemistry Laboratory
A spacious, well-ventilated and eco-friendly laboratory with full safety measures, set up at a cost of ₹20 lakh. Major equipment: potentiometer, conductometer, spectrophotometer, pH meter, viscometer and flame photometer.

SHESA – Science & Humanities Engineering Students Association
SHESA was inaugurated on 25 February 2015 to create disciplined, successful and socially responsible technocrats. It provides high-quality training in the basic sciences by organising guest lectures on new concepts, mini-project exhibitions, quiz competitions and Science Day celebrations — primary factors crucial to success in any sphere of life.

Seminar on “Innovative Nanomaterials and Its Applications”
The Department of Science and Humanities organized a seminar on “Innovative Nanomaterials and Its Applications” for all the first year students under the auspices of our Secretary, Rev. Sr. Dr. B. J. Queensly Jeyanthi, SAT, our Principal Dr. R. Arokiadass and Vice-Principal Sr. Punitha Jilt. The programme was conducted on 20.11.2024 at 10.30 am with Prayer Song and reading of Holy Books.
Dr. G. Abiramasundari, AP/S&H welcomed the gathering. The Resource Person, Dr. E. Bharathi AP/S&H, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry, was felicitated with a shawl by Mrs. S. Ramya, AP/S&H and a Memento by Mr. K. Saravanan, HOD/S&H.
The Resource Person explained the Significance of Nano Materials and their applications. Nanomaterials are used in many fields, including medicine, agriculture, and environmental improvement.

MOTIVATION PROGRAM
MOTIVATION PROGRAMME REPORT

A motivation program entitled “Personality and Attitude” was organized by Science and Humanities, St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology for first year students on 31st May, 2022 (Tuesday) in the college conference hall from 11.00a.m to 12.00 p.m.
The Resource Person of this program was Mr. Ashley Dominic Benny, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, Sri ManakulaVinayagar Engineering College, Puducherry.
The program began with prayer followed by Welcome address by Dr. M. Marshal Arunkumar (S&H). Then, the speaker delivered a wonderful lecture on Personality and Attitude. The presenter who himself is a source of motivation to students gave encouraging examples from his own life and inspired students to be a self-motivator. He discussed the importance of positive thinking and attitude which brings optimism into life and such constructive changes can make one brighter and more successful. This program helped students to be guided by a positive mind and driven by self-motivation.
Nearly 160 students and staff from St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology attended the program. The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Mr. K. Rackesh Jawahar (S&H).
SEMINAR ON "COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES"
A seminar entitled “Communication Strategies” was organized by Science and Humanities, St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology for first year students on 27th April, 2022 (Wednesday) in the college conference hall from 11.00a.m to 12.00 p.m.
The speaker of this program was Dr. k. Padmanaban, Assistant Professor of English, Annamalai University, Chidambaram In the program, the Principal Dr. R. Arokia dass felicitated the gatherings.
The program began with prayer followed by Welcome address by Dr.D. Sampathkumar (S&H). Then, the speaker delivered a wonderful lecture on communication strategies. The speaker insisted to develop Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing skills. He also discussed the importance of communication skills and attitude which brings optimism into life and such constructive changes can make one brighter and more successful.
Nearly 160 students and staff from St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology attended the program. The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Dr. G. Dhanavel (S&H).

A motivation program was organized by Science and Humanities, St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology for First Year students on 25th February (Friday) in the college auditorium from 9.30a.m to 4.00 p.m.
The speaker of this program was Fr.Dr. Arul Raja SDB, Principal, St.Mary’s College of Education, Katpadi, Vellor. In the program, the secretary Rev.Sr.Dr. Y. Yesu Thangam,the Principal Dr. R. Arokia dass and the Vice principal Sr.Punitha Jilt were graced the occasion.
The program began with prayer followed by Welcome address by prof Dr.A, Azhagappan(S&H). Then, the speaker delivered motivational speech among the students. The speaker himself is a source of motivation to students gave encouraging examples from his own life and inspired students to be a self-motivator. He also discussed the importance of positive thinking and attitude which brings optimism into life and such constructive changes can make one brighter and more successful. He conducted many mind games in order to kindle the students positive minds and driven by self-motivation.

FIRST YEAR INAUGURATION
Ist YEAR INAUGURATION CEREMONY REPORT
“Every moment is a fresh new beginning… a wonderful inauguration of the great cosmic journey through the universe”
The Inauguration ceremony of the new academic year 2021-2022 was held on October, 25th 2021 in the st.Anne’s CET, Panruti at the college auditorium.
The chief guests secretary Rev. sr. Dr.Y.Yesu Thangam, principal Dr.R.Arokiadass, Vice Principal Sr. Punitha Jilt and st.Anne’s CET alumna Ms.S. Saranya( Direct Assistant, Health Manpower Development Institute, villupuram.) inaugurated the function by lighting the lamb.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a prayer by sisters of st.Anne’s CET. The welcome speech was efficiently delivered by the vice principal Sr. Punitha Jilt. Then, the principal addressed the students by suggesting success belongs to those who believe in the power of their ideas. Next, the secretary Rev. Sr. Dr. Y.Yesu Thangam presided over inauguration function and stressed enough on the profound importance of the personal responsibilities for becoming responsible citizen. Then, st.Anne’s CET alumna Ms. S.Saranya advised the students to be focused on their studies, she also emphasized the importance of communication skills in the work place.
Finally, Mr.N.Syed Mubarak (Head of the Department, Science and Humanities) faithfully delivered the vote of thanks .The Inaugural function was concluded with the National Anthem.
MOTIVATION PROGRAM ON TIME MANAGEMENT
On 7th October 2021, a motivation programme on “TIME MANAGEMENT” was conducted by the Department of Science and Humanities, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, panruti ,with the objective to create awareness amongst students about Time Management.
The resource person for the program was Mr. S. DURAIRAJ, Assistant Professor, Electronics and Communication Engineering, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology panruti.The programme started with a welcome address delivered by Mr. N. Syed Mubarak Head of the Department (S&H).
The Resource Person has given an excellent and eye-opening presentation about the Time Management. He also emphasized how effective time management allows students to complete more in less time and good time management allows students to make the most of their abilities and enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishment.
The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Mr. D. Sampathkumar Assistant Professor (S&H).

On 30 September 2021, a motivation programme on “LIFE SKILLS” was conducted by the Department of Science and Humanities, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, panruti ,with the objective to create awareness amongst students about Life Skills.
The resource person for the program was Mrs. D. PAULINE FREEDA, Head of the Department, Computer Science and Engineering, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology panruti.The programme started with a welcome address delivered by Mr.V.Prakash AP ( S&H).. Then, the resource person interpreted about the different stages of human being, as a children, as a student, as a professionalist, as a parent in their life.She also emphasized how to maintain good rapport in all the stages of life. Finally she advised that “Life Skills” is very important for successful life.
The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks by Mr. N. Syed Mubarak Head of the Department (S&H).
WEBINAR ON ENGINEERING AND ITS SCOPE
On 21 September 2021, an interactive webinar on “ENGINEERING AND IT’S SCOPE” was hosted by the Training and Placement cell in collaboration with the Department of Science and Humanities, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology ,with the objective to create awareness amongst students.
The resource person for the webinar was Mr. HARRISON MANOJ KUMAR, HR, JK TYRES Pvt Ltd, Mysore. The program started with a welcome address delivered by Mr.Eugene ( Placement co ordinator). The webinar was conducted to provide students the insight and understandings regarding Engineering studies. The resource person also exposed the components need to be developed by students as an Engineer.

The Department of Science and Humanities has arranged a Webinar on “Virtual Lab for Communication Skills” on 28.04.2021 at 09.30 a.m. Dr. D. Sampathkumar, Assistant Professor in English, Department of Science and Humanities, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, Panruti, resource person addressed the First year students regarding the topic. The webinar was conducted to provide the students the insight of global exposure and understanding regarding the key concepts like Dedication, Self confidence, Positive attitude, Discipline, Enthusiasm, Hard work and the importance of communication in every sphere of our life. The resource person exposed the students to a variety of self-instructional and learner-friendly modes of language learning and enabled them to learn better pronunciation through stress or word accent, intonation, and rhythm and motivated them to use language effectively with the help of Shakshat Virtual laboratory for English and communication developed by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.

Inter College Virtual Quiz & Science Fair Competitions 2021
The Department of Science and Humanities has arranged an Inter –College Virtual Quiz & Science Fair Competitions -2021 on 08.01.2021 to remember Stephen Hawking, the renowned scientist, known for his contributions to the study of the universe, from the origins of the cosmos to the mysterious nature of black holes, The longtime Cambridge professor, roaming the campus grounds in his electric chair and speaking in the deadpan, robotic voice of his speech synthesizer. “If you are sensitive towards your surrounding and identify the real problems of it, fruitful innovations come up naturally,” Students were asked to choose their favourite topic and create a scientific working model to explain it. They made still models, colourful charts, posters, working models, and so on. The students also gave a beautiful and detailed explanation of their models to all the viewers with basic scientific principles. They were even questioned about the scientific concepts and theories behind their project. Various sustainable topics and ideas were picked up and demonstrated visually. All of them showcased their best talent and abilities both verbally and mentally.

The Department of Science and Humanities has organised a webinar on “Remembering Stephen Hawking's Greatest Contributions” on 08.01.2021 at 10.00 a.m to remember the primary scientific accomplishments of Stephen Hawking, the renowned scientist. Stephen Hawking was born on January 08, 1942 exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo. Coincidently, he died on 14th March 2018, on the Birth Date of Albert Einstein. Dr. S. Jancy Sophia, Assistant Professor , Department of Chemistry, C. Kandasamy Naidu College for Women , Cuddalore- 607001, Resource Person, revealed his early life, about his books and Awards and Honors received by him. Hawking was a mediocre graduate student at Cambridge. Recently in 2014, Biographical Romantic Drama Film “The Theory of Everything” was directed including the details of his relationship with his wife. He was honoured with Several Awards for his contribution in Physics (general relativity and quantum gravity, especially in the context of black holes.) and she inspired students by telling about his sufferings with the rare and incurable neurological disease i.e. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. This disease paralysed him over the decades. Though the seminar was heart touching but his zest and will in life proved to be a great inspiration for all of us.
VIRTUAL INDUSTRIAL VISIT
he Department of Science and Humanities has organised a webinar on “VIRTUAL INDUSTRIAL VISIT” on 08.01.2021 at 11.30 a.m. The objective of the visit is to provide an opportunity for the students to expose themselves virtually to industrial environment and correlate the theoretical knowledge with practical aspect. Mr. A. Mark Vimal Jarard, Precommissioning Manager, Desalination Plant, Jurong Engineering Limited, Kingdom of Bahrain, explained the importance of safety rules and safety procedures followed inside the company and discussed about the company product and operation. Sur desalination plant uses sea water which is high potential solution to convert sea water into potable drinking water and uses innovative technologies which are ecologically and economically efficient. Later He showed them the various units of the company and explained about Beach well Catchment, Pre-treatment, High-pressure Pumps and Energy Recovery, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Post-treatment, and Drinking Water Storage processing. During the Virtual Industry visit, the students were also able to see the various high pressure pumps, safety valves, flow measuring devises, flow control valves and chemical treatment.

The Department of Science and Humanities has arranged National Mathematics Day Quiz competition on 22.12.2020 at 02.30 p.m to remember the great Indian Mathematician Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan & his magnificent contributions on his Birth Anniversary. The First Year students showcased their brilliance by rapidly answering the questions. Though some of the questions were very tricky, the students were tried to answer them with confidence. ST.ANNE’S CET encourages such positive competitions and hopes to bring out the best in all its students through such competitive events, while ensuring that the children learn through all possible ways- not just through books and classroom teaching.

The students created magnificent paintings on paper with colours. It was related to the present day scenario, where students could engage in skillful learning through the medium of Art. Inter – College Competitions on National Armed Forces Flag Day
The Department of Science and Humanities in association with Science and Humanities Engineering students Association have arranged an Inter – College Competitions on National Armed Forces Flag Day on 07.12.2020 under the theme of Tribute to the Armed Forces Veterans. Various Inter-House Competitions for first year students were held to mark the occasion. The competitions were a fusion of talent, imagination, creativity and alertness. Whether it was the melodious solo song and instrumental, slogan or elocution, the activities helped to bring out the uniqueness of each individual. Spontaneity and confidence were the hallmark of the competition.

The Department of Science and Humanities had organized a Seminar on “How to plan and prepare for In Campus Placements ” for the First Year students. Mr. R. Viswalingam, Assistant Professor in Mathematics welcomed the gathering. Mr. V.C. Eugin Martin Raj, Assistant Professor & HOD, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was the resource person. He talked about the current demand for Engineering graduates in the industry today. He said “It is absolutely necessary for everyone to carve a distinct place for oneself in this highly competitive industry” The talent and skills should not be restricted only to the domain area knowledge but one should also be a multi-tasker and should be familiar with working in virtual teams.

The Department of Science and Humanities had organized a guest lecture on Personality Development to the First Year students. Rev. Dr. Sr. S. Anita, Professor and Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, St. Anne’s College Of Engineering And Technology, Panruti was the resource person. She enlightened the students about the importance of personality development in the present scenario. She explained the concept of enhancing and grooming one’s outer and inner self to bring about positive changes in life. She guided students on improving communication skills, widening ones scope of knowledge, learning etiquettes and manners etc. She also elaborated the effect of self esteem on the personality of an individual.

The Department of Science and Humanities had organised a Seminar on Engineer to Entreprenur for First Year students. Mr. N. Syed Mubarak, Associate Professor in Mathematics greeted the guest Dr. D. Ommurugadhasan, Professor& Head of the Department, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, St. Anne’s College Of Engineering And Technology, Panruti. Afterward, The resource person gave introduction to Engineer to Entrepreneur . He explained about the various type of characteristic of an entrepreneur and various type of characteristic of an successful entrepreneur. The Department of Science and Humanities had organized a seminar on “Art of Living” for the first year students Mrs. J.Joaquine Arokia Mary, Asst/Prof.Chemistry welcomed Rev. Sr. L. Deepa, SAT, System Administrator, St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, Panruti, Resource Person and the participants.The Session started with very innovative process of art of living known as "I BELONG TO YOU" it made all the participants to interact with each other for a couple of minutes and really helped all the participants to be comfortable for rest of the course.

Inauguration of First Year Student Induction Program
The inauguration of Student Induction Program for the fresher’s of St. Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology, Panruti was celebrated on 11.11.2020 at the College Auditorium by 10.00am. The programme was started with the prayer and prayer song. Rev. Sr. A. Punitha Jilt, Vice Principal /HOD (CSE) formally welcomed all the dignitaries present on the dais, parents, colleagues and the students. Dr. R. Arokiadass, Principal, delivered the inaugural address and stressed upon the importance of ethics in human lives and urged that everyone had the potential to face extraordinary challenges and emerge victorious. He inspired the students by his motivational speech. College Secretary Rev. Sr. Dr. Y. Yesu Thangam, SAT has presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. She highlighted that rules existing for the well being of all students in the campus. She insisted that there was a pressing need to address issues related to value and discipline among the youth belonging to the generation of smart phones and internet wherein information is available at the click of a mouse. At last Prof. Dr. A.John Peter, HOD (S&H), presented Vote of thanks. He thanked all the invited parents and students for gracing the occasion by their solemn presence. The programme ended with National Anthem.

Prakash,AP elaborated the importance of Basics of Differentiation and Integration. It is an eye opener for the students from their dark sides of basics of mathematics. INDUSTRIAL TOUR TO INTERNATIONAL BAKERY PRODUCTS LTD (FACTORY) IN SRIPERUMBUDUR
To pertain the knowledge about the inner atmosphere and industrial acquaintances, Department of Sciences and Humanities had organized an industrial tour for First year Students of 2019-2023 batch to International Bakery Products Ltd (Factory), Sriperumbudur on 15- February-2020. The objective of the Industrial Visit is to help students to gain first hand information regarding functioning of the Industry, which presents the students with opportunities to plan, organize and engage in active learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and to understand the application of theory into practice. It provided an opportunity for students to interact with entrepreneurs and executives associated with the industry. It helped students to understand the journey of product from place of production to customer's hands and management strategies, which made this journey fruitful. The executives of International Bakery Products Plant helped the students to understand the various intricacies of different departments and also took the students for the factory visit. On the onset the officials explained to the students in brief about the International Bakery Products Plant –Raw materials, Plant Layout, Market, Industry view etc. And they also explained the process which begins from the Raw materials to the finished products. Students understood the punctuality and the discipline in the corporate. Furthermore, the security management, the Professionalism, Team work and sense of belonging, Cordial Environment, Job Opportunities and moreover the realm of the company were known.
GUEST LECTURE ON "APPLICATIONS OF NANOSCALE SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING"
The Department of Science and Humanities has organized a guest lecture by Dr. F. Jancy Sophia, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, C. Kandasamy Naidu College for Women, Cuddalore on 11th February, 2020 on “Applications of NanoScale Science and Engineering”. Prof. Jancy Sophia gave introduction to Nanotechnology and brief history of research in nanomaterials. She explained changes of physical and chemical properties of materials at nanoscale. She also explained the applications of nanomaterials in the field of cosmetics, space technologies, diagnostics and therapeutic practices, especially treating cancer, gene therapy and in vitro diagnostics. She also discussed how nanoscale material has made a difference in many areas of engineering and technology, such as energy, environmental pollution control, textile, automobile and electronics. The entire session was very interactive and students were allowed to ask their queries during the whole session

The Department of Science and Humanities has arranged a guest lecture on “ICT Initiatives of Government of India in Higher Education” on 22.10.2019 at 3.05 p.m. The aim of the seminar guided by Dr. A. John Peter, HOD/ Professor in Physics, Department of Science and Humanities was to sensitize the budding engineers on different digital initiatives of Govt. of India and advantages of them in day to day life of students. Benefits of online courses and certifications were also enlightened to all the participants. He also focused on demonstrating and elucidating how to download the applications, use them, prerequisites to use them.

One Day seminar on “Challenges To Overcome The Degrading Environment” conducted by Science And Humanities Engineering Students Association (SHESA), the program was started with prayer song and bible reading, and the gathering is welcomed by Mrs. S. Ramya, ASP / S&H, The first session was taken by chief Guest Dr. M. Sasikumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sangunthala R & D Institute of Science and Technology, chennai on “challenges to overcome degrading environment”. During this session he gave brief exposure about the pollution and types and effects of pollutions are explained with case studies and he gave initiatives to overcome the setbacks, The second session was taken by Rev. Mother. Dr.Y. Yesu Thangam, Secretary of St. Anne’s CET on “conservation of human resources” and put in the picture that the creation of human being and his ability and efficiency in controlling environmental degradation. The third session was followed by Mrs. S. Ramya, ASP/S&H on “Role of Energy Resources” and she talked about the non polluted energy resources and it applications in current scenario and the last session was carried out by Mrs. J. Joquine Arokiya Mary Lect/S&H on “Role of Land Pollution” andshe gave brief thought about land pollution and strategies to overcome the difficulties and she discussed about the 3Rs, The curtens came to close with vote of thanks by Dr. A. Industrial visit
An industrial visit was arranged for the first year students on 28.03.2018. Nearly 130 students with 15 staff members started by our college bus at 9.30 a.m. First we went to Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and visited Mine I area. NLC officers explained the history of Mine I and gave a nice explanation on the process involved in the generation of power in Mine I which benefited our students. Later we went to the birth place of Vallalar and places in and around Vadaloor. It was a very useful trip and our students were much benefited.
