Innovation, from idea to prototype
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (now the Ministry of Education), Government of India, established the MHRD's Innovation Cell (MIC) to systematically foster a culture of innovation in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). MIC's primary mandate is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes during their formative years.
MIC envisioned a network of Institution's Innovation Councils (IICs) across HEIs to promote innovation through multiple modes, creating an innovation-promotion ecosystem on campus.
- To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem.
- Start-up / entrepreneurship supporting mechanism in HEIs.
- Prepare the institute for the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) framework.
- Establish a functional ecosystem for scouting ideas and pre-incubation of ideas.
- Develop better cognitive ability among technology students.
- Promote innovation in the institution through multitudinous modes, leading to an innovation-promotion ecosystem on campus.
- Conduct innovation and entrepreneurship activities prescribed by the central MIC in a time-bound fashion.
- Identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
- Organise periodic workshops, seminars and interactions with entrepreneurs, investors and professionals, and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
- Network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organisations.
- Create an institutional innovation portal to highlight innovative projects by faculty and students.
- Organise hackathons, idea competitions and mini-challenges with the involvement of industry.
